The nuclear option is on the table
to solve the Gulf Oil Leak Disaster.
The Pentagon has drafted a plan
that would plug Gaia's Gash by detonating a nuclear bomb--1.5 times the
strength of the Hiroshima bomb--at a depth of 1.5 kilometers.
The Pentagon says that the
underground explosion would move the surrounding rock, compress it, and close
the well’s channel.
To support its claim that is safe
and has an 80% chance of succeeding, the Pentagon says that the Russians have
done it five times; beginning in Uzbekistan, on September 30, 1966 and most
recently 1979. There was only one misfire, near Kharkov, Ukraine, where a
nuclear blast was unable to plug a gas leak.
The Pentagon also notes that
subterranean nuclear blasts were used about 170 times in the Soviet Union to
create underground storage spaces for gas or building canals.
President Obama will consult with
world leaders before pushing the button for the detonation of a nuclear device
in the Gulf of Mexico. He will then
announce his decision to the American people and the world leaders would follow
the broadcast with their own messages to their populations.
