On July 22, 47 Members of the House of Representatives introduced a resolution (H.RES.1553) expressing support for "Israel's right" to use "all means necessary to confront and eliminate nuclear threats" posed by Iran, "including the use of military force." [1] This is part of a stepped up campaign in Washington to legitimize the idea of an Israeli or U.S. military attack on Iran; that would be bad enough. But it is likely that an Israeli attack on Iran would draw the United States into military conflict with Iran, so legitimizing an Israeli attack on Iran would create a backdoor to a U.S. war.
"What is important to understand about this campaign is that the aim… is to support an attack by Israel so that the United States can be drawn into direct, full-scale war with Iran… because Israel cannot fight a war with Iran without full U.S. involvement. Israel needs to know that the United States will finish the war that Israel wants to start. [2]
